The Gathering Together is pleased to announce their Volunteer of the Month Program. Honored volunteers will be featured on the website Volunteers Tab with their picture and their ‘story’. At the end of each year, the Gathering Together Board of Directors will celebrate all twelve  of the year’s selected volunteers  with a special gathering in their honor.

Please consider nominating your favorite volunteer for this honor. The form and submission details can be found on our website at http://thegatheringtogether.org/volunteer-of-the-month/.

TGT’s Volunteer of the Month for December: Darrell Osborne

We first met Darrell when his wife was a guest at TGT.  He then began to stop by from time to time, bringing us unique pieces that he made in his woodworking shop.  Soon he started joining Barb and Don Abbott at the Farmers Market.  He was a huge asset because he got folks’ attention and was relentless in selling them all something!

Most recently, he almost single-handedly renovated “The Shop Next Door,” creating a clean, sharp and beautiful sales space that we all can be proud of.  For weeks I’d glance out at the garden and see Darrell’s big red truck parked there (since the crack of dawn) and he working away at plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry and decorating!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A TGT VOLUNTEER?
Roughly two years; since my wife was a guest at The Gathering Together summer before last.

WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
When my wife was a guest, I was introduced to the things that the Gathering Together does for the community.  The Abbotts encouraged me to participate with them at the Farmer’s Market and it just grew from there.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I feel that I owe the community, and The Gathering Together is a great cause to support.

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER.
I get enjoyment from seeing and talking with people, sharing and informing them about the work of The Gathering Together.

WHAT BACKGROUND OR LIFE EXPERIENCE HAS BEST PREPARED YOU FOR YOUR VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
I am a handy man.  I try to do a little bit of everything… always have.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO ANYONE THINKING OF VOLUNTEERING AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
Even If they don’t do The Gathering Together, they need to find some organization that will allow them to give back to the community.  TGT does that for me.
