October Volunteer of the Month

The Gathering Together is pleased to announce their Volunteer of the Month Program. Honored volunteers will be featured on the website Volunteers Tab with their picture and their ‘story’. At the end of each year, the Gathering Together Board of Directors will celebrate all twelve  of the year’s selected volunteers  with a special gathering in their honor.

Please consider nominating your favorite volunteer for this honor. The form and submission details can be found on our website at http://thegatheringtogether.org/volunteer-of-the-month/.

TGT’s Volunteer of the Month for October: Susanne Sperback

Susanne will do anything for anyone in the sewing department…all with a smile.  Nothing is too hard or too repetitive for this Serger-expert!  She has taught us all a lot.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A TGT VOLUNTEER?
I have been volunteering at The Gathering Together for at least the past three to four years.

WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
I was asked to help Rita with her sewing machine.  I liked working with Rita and learning about the mission of the Gathering Together.  I’ve been coming back ever since.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
The love of the people there; I know that what I’m doing is making a difference by supporting the work of this peaceful place, that my talents are being used for a worthy cause.

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER.
There are several things that come to mind:  The chance to meet and to visit with families; the opportunity to help Rita make the Gathering Together banner for the front porch; the fact that Rita refers to me as “the serger guru”.  All of these things help me to feel right at home and part of the Gathering Together family.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT COMING TO THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
It’s so easy to get work done there.  I enjoy working with Rita and the other volunteers doing whatever sewing project needs to be done.

WHAT BACKGROUND OR LIFE EXPERIENCE HAS BEST PREPARED YOU FOR YOUR VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
I have been crafting since I was thirteen.  I’m an ordained minister.  I’ve always enjoyed and have been part of ministry most of my life.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO ANYONE THINKING OF VOLUNTEERING AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
?  I would encourage them to come and see what it’s all about.  Once they see the wonderful work and the fact that there’s always something to be done whatever their interests or talents they’ll know that God can use them there.
