September Volunteer of the Month
The Gathering Together is pleased to announce their Volunteer of the Month Program. Honored volunteers will be featured on the website Volunteers Tab with their picture and their ‘story’. At the end of each year, the Gathering Together Board of Directors will celebrate all twelve of the year’s selected volunteers with a special gathering in their honor.
Please consider nominating your favorite volunteer for this honor. The form and submission details can be found on our website at http://thegatheringtogether.org/volunteer-of-the-month/.

TGT’s Volunteer of the Month for September: Judy Williams & Lee Alice Summers
Please recognize this fabulous duo who faithfully clean the house as a cheerful and professional team. Everything just feels better after they have been here. They are faithful and fun to be around.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A TGT VOLUNTEER?
Judy began by cutting peppers for jelly back in 2012… the old TGT garage had just been demolished and Judy had just retired. She gradually increased her activities until she began cleaning the house on a routine basis. Lee Alice began volunteering in 2014 after her mother spent her last days at The Gathering Together. Talking about the kind and loving care her mother received here still brings tears to her eyes. Judy and Lee Alice met at TGT and became a team over time.
WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
Judy saw a newspaper article about Rita. When she retired, she called Rita to ask about volunteer opportunities. Lee Alice wanted a way to pay it forward and found satisfaction in working routinely at TGT.
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
The whole concept of TGT. Judy and Lee Alice meet for breakfast each cleaning day before ‘reporting for duty’.
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER.
Judy recalls her first Holiday Open House fondly – everything was so magical. Lee Alice says that it’s all good; it’s just like coming to church to be recharged.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT COMING TO THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
The company of the people. It’s a big family.
WHAT BACKGROUND OR LIFE EXPERIENCE HAS BEST PREPARED YOU FOR YOUR VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
Judy has always liked helping people, and this fit the bill for her. Lee Alice has always worked in the service industry in some capacity and volunteering at TGT seems an extension of that life-long initiative.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO ANYONE THINKING OF VOLUNTEERING AT THE GATHERING TOGETHER?
“Just do it!” “It gives you a great feeling.”
